A dog who sits in the kitchen but pulls, ignores you, or loses focus outside needs practice in the real world. Mother of Beasts K9 Training offers private obedience training in San Diego that works on the skills you and your dog need at home, on walks, and around distractions.

Build skills for real life.
Turn kitchen cues into skills you can use on walks, at the front door, and around distractions. I’m Mary. I bring more than 20 years of dog training and sport experience to each private lesson. You train with me directly, so you know what to practice between visits.

Everyday obedience you can use
Mary works with you and your dog in your home, where everyday habits begin. You practice the leash handling, cues, and timing that help your dog understand what you want, then build those skills in situations that matter to your household. Your dog does not go away to be trained by someone else; you learn how to continue the work between visits.
- Leash handling for walks that feel less like a tug-of-war.
- Recall, stay, and useful cues your dog can practice beyond the living room.
- Focus, door manners, and impulse control when something more interesting appears.
- Clear practice steps for you and the family members who handle your dog.
Knowing “sit” in a quiet room is a starting point, not the finish line. Mary adjusts the exercises to your dog: a youngster learning the rules, a high-drive dog who needs to listen through excitement, and a dog who loses focus outside will need different starting points and practice.

Start with an in-home assessment so Mary can meet your dog, understand your goals, and recommend an appropriate plan. If the obedience program is the right fit, you can continue with six private weekly lessons.
Initial in-home assessment
$250
Approximately 1.5 hours with Mary and your dog. This is a separate first step.
Private obedience program
$1,200
Six private lessons, one per week, tailored to your dog’s needs and your handling goals.
Why work one-on-one with Mary?
Mary brings more than 20 years of dog-training experience and extensive work in multiple dog sports. Her focus is on the team: you should understand how to handle, communicate with, and train your dog after she leaves. Private lessons also leave room to address the behavior that is actually getting in the way of your life.
If barking, lunging, fear, or aggressive behavior is your primary concern, reactive dog training and behavior modification may be a better fit than general obedience. An evaluation helps establish the right plan.
Questions about private obedience training
What happens at the initial assessment?
Mary meets you and your dog in your home for approximately 1.5 hours, discusses the behaviors you want to change, and recommends an appropriate starting point. The assessment costs $250 and is separate from the program.
What does the obedience program include?
Six private lessons, typically one each week, for $1,200. The work focuses on the skills your household needs, which may include leash manners, recall, focus, and practical cues around distractions.
Will I be involved in the lessons?
Yes. Mary trains you and your dog together, shows you what to practice, and helps you handle the situations that come up between lessons.
My dog already knows “sit.” Is this program still useful?
It may be. Responding in a quiet room and listening when the leash comes out or distractions appear are different challenges. The assessment helps Mary determine which skills need work.
Will six weeks be enough for my dog?
It depends on your dog’s needs and the issues you want to address. That is why Mary begins with a $250, 1.5-hour assessment before recommending a plan. Are you willing to practice with your dog every day? Will the family members who handle your dog use the same approach? Their involvement and consistency matter to your progress.
